PKV and GSB Seeking $250k for Seattle’s First Parkour Park

The Garfield Super Block (GSB) is an important multicultural gathering space in the Central District. It’s part of a $10M renovation project and is the future home of Seattle’s first parkour park.

Parkour Visions recently shared the design for Seattle’s first parkour park. Green-lit by the City of Seattle, this community-driven design is a huge win! For years, we’ve dreamed of a central gathering area for PNW parkour practitioners. We can now move forward with a park that will also provide a great playspace for our neighbors of all ages and abilities.

(Take a look at GSB’s design plans for the southeast corner of the park, and take this survey to share your vote and ideas for how this corner is designed.)

PKV is working with the Garfield Super Block (GSB) Coalition to include this parkour park in the GSB renovation, a $10M plan to build a space that community activists have been fighting for for nearly 20 years. PKV started working with the Coalition in 2020 because we believe in this project and share our partners’ commitment to intergenerational play. We are collaborating to achieve a central hub for movement, art, and connection in the heart of Seattle’s historic Central District.

Now we need to fundraise for construction costs. While PKV has garnered public and private funding for our low- and no-cost programming in the past, this is the first time we are applying with partner organizations for joint funding. Construction of the parkour park alone will cost approximately $250,000. The Coalition has already raised about $6M of the overall cost of the renovation. PKV will continue working closely with our partners to fill the remaining gap via local, state, and federal funding. Together, we will make the GSB renovation a reality and build Seattle’s first parkour park.

It’s exciting to collaborate closely with the folks at the GSB Coalition, Seattle Parks & Recreation, and Seattle Parks Foundation. These are passionate community leaders doing the work to fulfill a 15+ year-old promise by the City of Seattle. We’re committed to seeing this project through, revitalizing a center for art, movement, and connection at the heart of Seattle’s Central District.
