Check Out the Design for Seattle’s First Parkour Park!

We are one step closer to Seattle’s first parkour park! The City of Seattle has provided “conditional approval” for our community-driven design—that’s government-speak for a green light.

PKV Design Director Colin MacDonald shared:

The Garfield Parkour Park is an ambitious design organized around the central sweep of a curved concrete wall. The space opens towards the footpath, providing an inviting transition for park users. The walls and rails that make up the park increase in height and distance as a visitor moves deeper into the space.

Designing a parkour park is always a balancing act. The space needs to be dense with possibilities without feeling overwhelming or cramped. It needs to have options for beginners to progress their skills while still offering challenges for experienced athletes who want to push their limits. Its aesthetic should enhance the space it inhabits without sacrificing utility for parkour to become pure sculpture.

Seattle has had a thriving and active parkour community for the better part of two decades. With this project, we will finally have a central outdoor space dedicated to our sport for future generations of parkour athletes to gather, practice, and play.
