3 Easy DIY At-Home Parkour Equipment Ideas

There are lots of ways you can turn any space into a creative playground. Here are some crafty DIY ideas that are easy to make and great for all ages.

This post will show you how to make basic parkour equipment for your home: precision trainers, rail trainers, and a portable pipe kit. This is the quintessential “floor is lava” play set!

All supplies can be bought at a local hardware store. All you need is a screw gun and a socket wrench to assemble this play set.

Floor “Precision Trainers”

Practice your footwork, jumps, and landings with a couple of wooden floor trainers.

Tool needed:

  • Screw Gun

Supplies needed:

  • 2x4 Lumber

  • Wood Glue

  • 3” Wood Screws

  • Optional: Wood Paint

Floor Rail Trainers

Level up your “floor is lava” game by including some balancing elements. Great for building ankle strength, too.

Tool needed:

  • Screw Gun

Supplies needed:

  • “Bathroom Style” ADA Grab Bars

  • 2x4 Lumber

  • 1.5” Wood Screws

Portable Pipe Kit

This kit is great because there are so many ways you can set it up. It can be a creative group activity to design the kit together. And when disassembled it takes up very little space—easy to store in a closet!

Tool needed:

  • Racketing 8mm socket wrench

Supplies needed:

  • Steel pipes

  • 45 degree elbow clamps

  • 90 degree elbow clamps

  • Three socket tee clamps

  • Pass through elbow clamps

Here’s one way to set up the pipes, using 5’ and 3’ steel pipes. Send us pictures of what you come up with!

Here’s the same setup, created by design director Colin MacDonald at TEDxSeattle in 2018. See Colin’s TED talk here.
